I managed to survive going to about 15 shows so far this year, and I’m sad to see festival season coming to an end with North Coast Music Festival closing out the weekend.
BUT -just when I thought I’d run out of shows to go to – here I am with a hundred things already lined up for fall/winter.
Here’s a peek at what I’m looking forward to in the next couple of months!
Sleigh Bells DJ Set @ Virgin Hotel / Sept 2
I have been a huge fan of Sleigh Bells for years since their debut album Treats (2010), and was lucky enough to catch them perform that record back in 2011. Albums later, they’re back with new material and have a November 11 release date for their new LP Jessica Rabbit. I am hoping to hear some new tracks at this set!

“Champions of Unrestricted Beauty” from their upcoming LP Jessica Rabbit
Music Midtown Festival @ Piedmont Park (Atlanta, Ga) / Sept 17-18
After spending 26 years of my life in Georgia, somehow I managed to miss Music Midtown every time. One month into my 30s, I’ve been given another chance. After 3 subsequent years of Lollapalooza, this will be my 1st music festival in my hometown and I could not be more excited!

Crystal Castles @ Metro / Oct 1
While we are all sad to see the duo continue without our beloved Alice Glass, I could not be more impressed with the new album that just dropped. I would never discredit the production value of CC just because of a new vocalist – and I’ve been playing Amnesty non-stop for days (all 38 min of it). I may have been more fulfilled had this been released as an EP (due to its length and time of hiatus), but they have surely refined their distortion since III (2011) and I am very impressed with the strength of Edith Frances’ vocals.

Mothxr @ Subterranean / Oct 6 (cancelled – and I had to point it out because it still hurts)
Kaytranada @ Concord Music Hall / Oct 6
When one door closes, another one opens – and Kaytranada was at the right place at the right time. This amazing producer/dj is playing at my FAVORITE venue here (from an audio clarity perspective) and it’s my 1st time seeing him live. Can’t wait to see the energy he brings to the set, because his debut full-length 99.9% does NOT disappoint. Think house-influences mixed with a little bit of soul – Disclosure + The Roots + Little Dragon (who’s actually featured on a track).

Purity Ring @ Riviera Theatre / Oct 29
Do I even need to explain? 3rd time’s the charm seeing these 2, and they manage to surprise me every time. It doesn’t hurt that their show is Halloween weekend, so I am ready to see what they’ve got in store for us. They never disappoint, and they manage to grow as artists while remaining very consistent and true to their sound.
Majid Jordan @ Metro / Nov 6
After over 3 years of being an underground fan, I was blessed with their presence just last April when they toured for the first time. Sadly, most people only associate this duo with Drake/OVO, but I had been patiently awaiting their live show since I first heard their funk/house-influenced EP Afterhours. Other artists take note because they are doing male-sensitivity RIGHT and have perfected the art of minimalism / marrying audio + visual – both live and in their music videos.

Rufus Du Sol @ Concord Music Hall / Nov 11
To be honest I had not heard of these Aussies prior to this year’s Lollapalooza lineup, but I did some research and enjoyed what I heard. I made a point to see their full set and was absolutely blown away. Not only was it amazing to see them playing all of these instruments live, but they were TRULY enjoying themselves and made a point to stop and connect with the audience in between songs. I survived my first “poncho-in-the-rain-at-a-concert” experience and it was one of the best show experiences of my life. I did not expect they’d be back so soon, but I daren’t miss them ever again and immediately jumped at the chance to go. And did I mention that Concord Music Hall is my favorite venue?

I am quite sure I’ll be adding more to the 2016 itinerary, so stay tuned. I’ve got my fingers crossed for Banks, Tinashe, and FKA Twigs since they’ve all been releasing a ton of new material lately.
What shows are you looking forward to this fall? Any recommendations? Going to any of these? Let me know in the comments or shoot me a message!
