Since the turn of the year, it’s been a slow and cautious approach for me with shows. The way 2016 ended with new music – it doesn’t surprise me that pretty much everyone is going on tour or appearing at a festival this year.
I’ve taken in a few small shows so far like Black Atlass and a Purity Ring DJ Set, but am truly stacking coins to drop for my staple fest Lollapalooza (aka always my birthday weekend), potentially Governor’s Ball in New York (which would be my first fest that I actually travel to), and also my future Gaga show (which is sold out and already ridiculously marked up – but I will pay what I have to pay).
And not to mention all of the shows in between the festivals…
So here’s what’s on my plate so far (*This list will continue to update periodically!* )
Red Bull Sound Select Presents: CHICAGO – $5 with RSVP
March 8, 2017 – Metro
General Admission / RSVP – This has surely become my favorite concert series, which brings amazing artists to my town once a month. Giving me the opportunity to both check out new acts as well as discover different music venues around the city. Let’s not forget the price, either – not bad!
Phantogram with The Veldt – $30 + fees
March 11, 2017 – Riviera Theatre
General Admission – My absolute favorite band – I don’t even have the time to go into that right now. I wouldn’t miss this for the world, and am actually treating myself and going solo for the night <3 Just a week away!
*UPDATED – This event is now sold out! But you can still catch tickets on Stubhub now if you’re quick (and cool with paying about $50+ instead).
Check out videos from the show here!
Sleigh Bells with Tunde Olaniran – $25 + fees
March 21, 2017 – Metro Chicago
General Admission – SLEIGH BELLS + THE METRO = UNFATHOMABLE BASS so you are not going to want to miss this. Their latest record Jessica Rabbit was a smash, and I’m really looking forward to their return to the stage!
Check out videos from the show here!
Flume, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and more (I’m clearly going for Flume) – $20 and up + fees
June 28, 2017 – Milwaukee Summerfest
Gorillaz – SOLD OUT – Resale for about $150 and up + fees
July 8, 2017 – Huntington Bank Pavilion at Northerly Island
General Admission – Fresh off the release of Humanz, there could not be a better time for this tour to take place. Tickets pretty much sold out immediately, of course, but depending on what you’re looking for – Stubhub and Livenation still have some pretty reasonable options right now!
Princess Nokia – $16 + fees
July 14, 2017 – Bottom Lounge
General Admission – I am BEYOND excited for this show! After watching this amazing Fader documentary about NYC-based rapper Destiny Frasqueri – or Princess Nokia – I was so intrigued by her story and that led me to start listening to her music. Make sure you check out her EP 1992!
Pitchfork Music Festival 2017 – $75 – $140 + fees
July 14-16, 2017 – Union Park Chicago
Single Day / Three Day – This year’s holiday pricing will start at $140 for 3-day passes, with prices going up to the standard $165 after those sell out. In addition, single days will be up for grabs for just $65! Layaway plans will also be an option for 3-day pass buyers, but only at the full price, not holiday offer.
*UPDATED pricing as of March 2017 is Single Day Pass for $75, and 3-Day Pass for $175. First batch of headliners includes Solange, LCD Soundsystem, and A Tribe Called Quest!
