For K-pop royalty’s very own Blackpink, this upcoming weekend undoubtedly marks their largest, most-anticipated live performance since their record-breaking appearance at 2019’s Coachella Music Festival. The first Korean girl group to perform at a U.S. festival, the ladies showed the states exactly what they were about and left us wanting more. No, literally. We wanted more and after wrapping up the Blackpink In Your Area World Tour about a year ago – BLINKS are finally getting their wish. Virtually, of course.
BLACKPINK: THE SHOW was a huge surprise to fans, and was announced amidst the Covid-19 pandemic just months ago. It promised a dynamic, large-scale, livestream experience on January 31, 2021 that fans across the globe could enjoy from the safety of their homes. In true form, the ongoing pandemic did create a small delay in the production’s initial rollout, with the scheduled performance being pushed back from it’s original date of Dec 27, 2020 in order to ensure the team’s safety and to continue to monitor the health regulations as they continuously changed over time.
With all that out of the way, as promised a new date of January 31, 2021 was set, merchandise continued to sell, and numerous trailers continued to hype up the event. I am really excited for this show because honestly, I remember watching the Coachella livestream in 2019 (not knowing who they were) and I ended up watching the entire thing in complete awe. Their Chicago tour date was literally days after Coachella, so I completely bombed an opportunity to see them one last time. So I am very much looking forward to this set, and BRB – I’m currently manifesting a live performance of “Ice Cream” because we were absolutely cheated out of a (non-animated) dance practice for that choreography. I’m still waiting! LOL!
So you’re probably wondering how to tune in? You can visit Blackpink’s Official Youtube page (also linked at the end of this article) and you’ll want to hit the blue “Join” button near “subscribe”. The one-time membership purchase allows you to gain access to viewing the show, along with other fun perks.
Members get to use adorable custom emojis of the members, view spoiler quizzes about the show (like “what will the opening song be?”), and get a glimpse at hints about what surprises are in store (like the new rap from Jennie, some changes to the choreography, and even insight into the wardrobe changes). Oh, and can we please talk about the CONFIRMED Rosé solo performance and debut? Is it really happening? Yesterday, homegirl drops a trailer out of the blue for what appears to be a new MV, and her vocals in the 33 second clip are insane. Literally crystal clear. And as a Rosé bias – I am definitely ready!
The price points are $29.99 and $39.99, with the higher one being Plus. Plus members gain exclusive access to the live sound check rehearsal (the day before the show). Also included are some exclusive behind-the-scenes episodes, showing the girls hard at work (and more are scheduled to come!). Again, the show is scheduled for January 31, 2021 (2PM KST), so US BLINKs do your timezone calculations! That’s gonna be 11PM CST for me on January 30, 2021 (this Saturday night).
If you won’t be able to catch the stream, or are honestly strapped for cash – don’t worry! You can catch the girls for free as they share a sneak peek of their first livestream concert stage on The Late Late Show with James Corden the day before. This will air on January 28 at 2:37 PM KST on CBS (That’s January 27 11:37 CST!) But, if you’re down to watch history being made, click below and purchase your access, BLINKS!
