The under-the-radar (by choice) unicorn known as Tommy Genesis is finally out for all to see and enjoy. The generally-reclusive explicit emcee just formally released her debut studio album, and after intermittently touring mostly international cities, she is ready to embark on a full EU / US tour, kicking off next year. Still real. Still aggressive. Still pouting.
November 9, 2018 was the official release of the self-titled Tommy Genesis album, marking the formal debut record from the elusive, experimental hip-hop artist since 2015’s World Vision project (which featured the aggressively hype, underground bop “Execute”.) In between releases there had been plenty of hints of a new record, like stand-alone tracks “Lucky” and “Tommy” to name a few. Leading up to Tommy Genesis we got the singles “100 Bad”, “Daddy” and “Bad Boy” – all of which were aligned with exactly the sound long-time listeners were hoping for on the next record. The final straw for me was that album cover, which is amazing! No only does she obviously look flawless, but the nod to “Aeon Flux” was so subtle and appropriate.
To my complete shock, Tommy then quickly took to Instagram to announce her upcoming “God Is Wild” tour which I was not expecting at all, ya’ll. I tend to generally be on top of tour dates and from what I gather, she does not tour to often – especially in the US. The upcoming dates include both EU and North American stops, kicking off in London in February 20, 2019 and wrapping up in late April in Cambridge, MA – don’t be left out!
You can see all the tour dates here, which are already on sale now. Listen to Tommy Genesis and check out the accompanying “God Is Wild” film on her official YouTube channel! (Unfortunately the video link could not be embedded.) The cinematic short features her own music as the score, so it’s the perfect clip to watch as a little “sampler” of the new record 🙂 Must hear: “Play With It”, “It’s Ok”, and “Naughty” ft. Empress Of
