Video Vibes: Lollapalooza Edition 2019

By default, Lollapalooza falls casually upon my birthday weekend year after year. 2019 is no exception with the festival wrapping up Day 4 on my actual birthday – August 4th! I’m notably pleased with the lineup this year (I’m sorry, the last one sucked and the one before that got rained out) so I am beyond ready for summer to hurry up and get here. This time around we’ve got a playlist featuring J. Balvin, H.E.R., Rufus Du Sol, 21 Savage, The Strokes, Ariana Grande, and more. Let’s check it out!

Video Vibes: Pitchfork Edition 2019

Back at it again with another video playlist showcasing some festival favorites for this year’s Pitchfork in Chicago. I’ve been to almost all of the summer festivals since I’ve moved here, but for some reason have never been to Pitchfork! Will this be the year? Check out videos from Rico Nasty, Soccer Mommy, Amber Mark, Charli XCX, Neneh Cherry, and more. Get in there!

Tame Impala Share New Single “Patience”

Tame Impala, 2019

The brand new song “Patience” marks Tame Impala’s latest release since 2017’s Current’s B-Sides and Remixes, a companion EP to the Grammy Award-winning record Currents (which was released back in 2015). You could say an unexpected single was the last thing anyone was expecting, even despite topping the headlining slot at this year’s Lollapalooza in Chicago.

Now Playing: “Hi This Is Flume” Mixtape and Visualizer

Flume

Literally everyone is releasing music left and right this month, and Aussie artist Flume has been no exception. As his first full-length release since 2016’s Skin, last week the experimental producer dropped a completely unexpected mixtape titled Hi This Is Flume. The 17-track mix is just under 40 minutes, and features work with artists like SOPHIE, slowthai, JPEGMAFIA and frequent collaborator Kučka just to name a few. The record is accompanied by a Jonathan Zawada-directed visual that is a breathtaking sensory overload and definitely worth a watch to really experience the attention to detail on these tracks.

Now Playing: The Space Between

The Space Between – Released October 27, 2017 by Majid Jordan

The Space Between is a 47-minute continuous mix from OVO’s progressive-R&B duo Majid Jordan, which depicts both a personal evolution of self and also a journey into the unknown, whether that be in or out of a relationship. Meant to be enjoyed in full without skipping any tracks, the follow-up to 2016’s self-titled LP Majid Jordan is highly reminiscent of their earlier Soundcloud songs and mixes (which were previously released under the moniker “Good People”). On this new record, Jordan Ullman experiments with new sounds and Majid Al Maskati becomes one with his emotions, and the risks on the album’s production are a huge step towards the future of R&B.

Now Playing: Pop 2

Pop 2 – Released December 15, 2017 by Charli XCX

Last Friday’s heavy wave of new album releases brought us Pop 2 – Charli XCX’s unexpected follow-up to early 2017’s mixtape Number 1 Angel. The high-octane, femme-friendly feels from the previous project definitely spill over into the new record, but that’s not a problem at all.
