Princess Nokia – 1992 Deluxe Out Now

Nuyorican hip-hop honey Destiny Frasqueri aka Princess Nokia has re-released her wildly successful record 1992, and I can finally blast pro-femme anthems at max volume once again. The new deluxe album was released worldwide today via Rough Trade Records, and it features 6 brand new tracks. And if that wasn’t enough, Princess Nokia has already shared an accompanying new music video in support of the release.

The introduction to the video features an intimate portrayal of brown sisterhood, with a beautiful poem detailing the perks (and insecurities) that come with being a woman of color.

You are so much more than the girl who looks out the window.

They may have things you do not have, in lives that seem easy – but you will earn that.
Because at the end of the day, you have something money could never buy.

YA’LL.

The direction of the video then shifts towards most fabulous, bad and boujee daydream of their idea of the glamorous life, with each ‘sis working it down the streets of NYC and living their best lives. Every woman is killing it in this video, and truly getting their life! In contrast to the delicate nature of the intro, this video totally flipped my wig and I am obsessed with Princess Nokia all over again. Do not sleep on this record!

So go ahead and check out the new video for “Flava”, listen to the album, and make sure you go back and read my initial review of the album from earlier this year!
