Hey guys! As expected, last night was perfect! A great start to what is beginning to officially feel like Fall here. The weather was breezy and cool, and I mean EVERYTHING is beautiful from a 26th story rooftop. I was able to blaze right through the door with no wait, to post up for this hot set.
The resident DJ definitely set us up for a successful night, blasting everything from Aaliyah to Chance The Rapper, and Missy Elliott to Kaytranada. The crowd was really mellow considering how busy this weekend has been, and shockingly there were no post-festival zombies in sight. Everyone looked ready to dance and have a good time.
Considering they just wrapped up a set, Alexis and Derek of Sleigh Bells rolled up at a cool 11:30 or so, and mingled with the crowd before setting up the decks. They were more than happy to chat, take pics, and interact with everyone in sight (possibly in contrast to just playing a set for hundreds and hundreds of people).
I managed to chit chat with the two of them while there were kickin it by the elevators. I brought along my Treats album from 2010 and was armed with a Sharpie, per usual. They sweetly introduced themselves with firm handshakes and humbly signed my album booklet without hesitation. Alexis made a point to repeatedly tell my friends and I how beautiful we were – which was like ICONIC.
ANYWAY – about the set.
Just as anticipated, Derek and Alexis brought their high-energy antics right over to Virgin and gave quite the spectacle. They took turns playing all of their favorite jams: Donna Summer, George Michael, and even Charli XCX (featuring Alexis and I sharing the mic). Everyone had a blast and they were super interactive and fun during the entire show. We were all shoulder-to-shoulder, huddled around their set-up just having a blast. Great time and great vibes.
