We nestled into a cute little spot up front towards the right, almost identical to where we stood in the rain at Lolla in our funky rain ponchos. It was like everything had come full circle and we were supposed to be here.
We made friends with our front row neighbors – who you could tell were genuine fans and equally elated to be in this position.
After sharing stories about past shows, the lights dimmed and the opening acts Dena Amy and Roland Tings did their thing!
After what actually didn’t feel like very long at all – the guys of Rufus ran onto the stage and the show began. Pretty much everyone lost it – including myself.
Positioned right in front of drummer James, we really felt the intensity of the beats and their energy was matched by all of our screams. Tyrone literally came right out the gate throwing water on the front row and flashing that trademark smile. You could really, really tell they were genuinely happy to be there which was exactly how they were over the summer. Whether a small venue or a music festival, these guys somehow create the most comforting and sincere atmosphere and I’ve been lucky enough to have now experienced both.

Armed with the best medley (for lack of better word) of songs old and new, I was able to hear almost every song I’d hoped they would play – accompanied with the most intense strobe and lighting display on earth, which was a stark contrast from rainy, grey ass Lolla. We danced for what felt like hours, made heart-eyes with vocalist Tyrone, and forgot about everything less-than-positive in our lives. (Yes, I had to fight back tears during “Innerbloom”, and no they didn’t play “Sarah”)

After dropping coins on some much-needed wanted merch, at about midnight we realized we had to immediately hot-tail it across town to the next location – Concord Music Hall for their DJ Set!
