On Friday night, after a long shift, I was able to pull a last-minute gig and catch one of my favorite artists I recently started listening to! Everything fell into place (from the weather to my outfit) and a casual post-work evening turned into another memorable night on the rooftop of my favorite chill spot.
Not to make a short story crazy long, early in the day I read that Alex Zelenka was playing a DJ set at Virgin Hotel. (If you’ve read anything on here recently, you know I’ve been really into his music since the Crystal Castles show a few weeks back.)
I definitely follow him on social media, so when I read about the show I was like:
HOW AND WHY DID I NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS and WHY DO I WORK UNTIL 930?
Unbeknownst to me, Zelenka was the surprise DJ for an already scheduled Halloween event – so I had to figure something out real fast.
I ultimately pre-dressed for the night before work, and begged/threatened one of my closest friends and then hot-tailed it outta there at 9:25 pm sharp.
Well, turns out there was no need to rush because it was actually crazy dead up in there. Which is odd considering the DJ that was playing when I walked in was INSANE.
Mark Gertz played some killer stuff – breaking into my late 2000’s CD book spinning Ladytron, Arcade Fire,Does It Offend You, Yeah?, and all of my obscure favorites that I never expected to hear out at a bar. The floor was kind of empty early in the night, but that was just more space for me to dance.
