Now Playing: Perfect Illusion

Bloodpop, Mark Ronson, Gaga, & Kevin Parker

The one-time urban myth “Perfect Illusion” is FINALLY here, and as a long-standing lover of all things Gaga – I am feeling #blessed to get any new material from this woman at this point. Didn’t know what to really expect, but with a team of experts backing an expert – I knew it would be just fine.

Literally me the past 3 years

Luckily the 3-year period of time between Artpop and this new track was not in vain, and I’ve enjoyed watching her continue to snatch the wigs off of the entertainment industry even when she’s “off”.

What a hot cast!
What a hot cast!

Whether by breaking the sound barrier with her Star Spangled Banner, or accepting a Golden Globe for guzzling blood in stilettos in American Horror Story – she is always on her game 200% and I knew that whatever she threw at me in the meantime, I’d eat it up.

Even though Gaga is my favorite artist, for some reason I have consistently been disappointed by every first single per each album. Hated “Just Dance”. Initially disappointed by “Bad Romance”. Literally hated “Born This Way”. Was annoyed by “Applause”. Do I hold high standards for her or do I actually hate the songs? I’ll never really know but what I’ve learned over the years is to never question her reasoning because it always makes sense later and I punch myself.

About 24 hours after the release of “Perfect Illusion” I punched myself.

When I found out the song was about to be released, I knew that everyone was going to be asking my opinion about it. I wasn’t worried about it because I knew that after working on the album for  T H I S  L O N G  – the new track would be amazing. Sadly, my hopes of a Fame-era club banger were crushed when I heard the new track. Not that the song was not great – just not what I was waiting this long to hear (I thought). The snippet she posted online hours before the stream were a bit misleading to the tempo of the track FOR SURE, and from what I gathered it was going to be a bit grimier and dark.

What I DID like right off the bat was pretty much everything she’s worn during promo and I don’t care how short the shorts are for some reason.

Let it be known, those shorts are actual metal

But in true fashion, I’ve come around and realized that I love the song, the composition, the (almost-too-literal) lyrics, and once I saw a video of her performing it – there was no turning back. I found a really good video of it on YouTube, it’s definitely a sight to see. I love when I can see the crazy in her eyes.

What are your thoughts on the new song? Do you also love this high ponytail the way that I do?

I completely feel you here. I think the woman is, by habit, bigger than her music: she most often makes songs that seem too basic, too “artpop-y” (whatever that means?), too “blah” relative to her talent. I’m a fan of Perfect Illusion, but I’m not sure it was the Perfect Jam I was hoping for. Still crazy excited to hear more.

It’s so cool to hear someone felt the same! Well what are your thoughts now that the video is out? I came around and I really do like it, but I feel like her songs with the best vocals are never “radio” friendly so she releases the simplest one 🙁

Really enjoyed the video! Appreciated that she didn’t do another dance number. Her emotion seems too raw to be staged. Feeling the song more now!

TELL ME YOUR THOUGHTS!
