24-year-old Canadian rapper and singer Ramriddlz pays homage to an iconic viral clip, complete with plenty of meme-ery and unforgettable lyrics along the way.
“Pop Rocks” is the latest music video to be released from last summer’s Sweeter Dreams LP, the follow-up to Ramriddlz’ 2016 debut album Venis. The wavy, hip-hop hit comes with a creative new video – equal parts trippy and comical. It starts off with Ram arriving at a club, seemingly present-day yet he’s dressed like it’s 1992. We see him chaotically maneuver about while the video features animated pop-ups to enhance each scene. Seems cool, right?
Here’s where it gets (more) fun:
No stranger at all to blatant pop culture-inspired visuals, this isn’t the first time Ramriddlz has done something like this. His last video release from Sweeter Dreams “Worst Love” is nearly a shot-for-shot remake of Alanis Morissette’s “Ironic” clip. However, “Pop Rocks” features Ram putting his own comedic spin on the hilarious internet clip of a young “Russian kid” dancing in a nightclub in the 90s.
My friend had already put me on to Ramriddlz some time ago, but this video really had me dying! It was on the TV in the background during a conversation and I was thinking to myself why do I recognize this? and why is he dancing like that?
When it finally clicked in my head, I thought this was one of the funniest videos I’d ever seen. Well done, Ramriddlz. Well done.
I just sprinkled dust in my cup
Now I’m rolling, rolling
Pulled out, I’m pullin’ up, yeah
Now I’m rolling, rolling
This is literally my favorite song right now and I play it almost every day, so yourself a favor and check him out!
