Now Watching: Charli XCX “1999” (ft. Troye Sivan)

Are we really going to sit here and just let this iconic video slip through the cracks? I am not okay with this, you guys! Please take three and a half minutes out of your day, and watch our favorite throwback babe take on your entire childhood. From The Spice Girls to Skechers ads, Apple computers to Ally McBeal – this video made me want to re-subscribe to Delia’s and call in to TRL at the same damn time.

If you blink you may miss a reference, so pay close attention! This has to be one of my favorite videos from Charli and almost for the sake of how comical it is. She knows her demographic so well, and in my opinion is a huge factor in the resurgence of bringing early 2000’s fashions back into the pop realm. Troye Sivan adds just what this song needs, and equally steals the show as he does his best Marilyn Manson, Keanu Reeves, and Justin Timberlake impressions – complete with ramen noodle hair!

Check out the nostalgic late-nineties bop now, and then check out the newly released, Spotify-exclusive vertical video which features Sivan and XCX partying in an NYC bathroom – see it here! In the meantime, here’s the original version of “1999” which should be awarded and applauded immediately! (Also can we talk about how she says “nine-ny, nine-ny-nine though? Love it!)
