Now Watching: Bedroom

A sultry switch-up from Mabel in the new video for title track “Bedroom” from her upcoming EP.

Scheduled to be released on March 26, Mabel’s forthcoming Bedroom EP came along with an amazing video to support the next single, “Bedroom” – the follow up to “Finders Keepers” which was released just a few weeks back featuring Kojo.

I’d first heard of Mabel in 2016 when I stumbled across her video for “Thinking of You” in a suggested feed on YouTube. I thought she had a really honest and vulnerable tone to her voice, and her style was sleek and on point (just like her hair).

I really enjoyed the visual with the song and pretty much went through all her videos right away. I really liked her vibe, so I just continued to keep an eye out for what was next with her.

Cut to me last week screaming when she posted a behind the scenes shot from the set of the new song and video – out of the blue. I swear the moment I saw this photo I already knew it was about to be GOOD.

I think within the first 30 seconds of this video I collapsed on the floor. Even the first words out of her mouth had and ever so slight tinge of attitude, that let you know exactly where she was going with this track.

You can only see me from the waist down
And I know that you can only want me when I lay down
You only ever need me when the light’s out
Now I’m stuck in the dark
‘Cause you’ve taken it too far

The lights and colors in the video really mirror the music and the lyrics and I love attention to detail. The choreography caught me off guard in the best way and it was such a stark contrast from her previous videos. It was so casual and sensual but perfect for the song – snatched my wig right off.

I love all of the small things in the shots, including the snake in the bed and the fact that her girlfriend is playing in her hair like a it’s a “sleepover” (Can we take a minute to obsess over her hair, please?) And the lighting going in and out really has a cool effect on all of the different textures in the “bed” too – really enjoyed that effect.

Her hair is incredible, tho

This video done set me off and I am so ready for this album to come out! Prepare for you new favorite R&B bop – watch it now!
