My soul and my spirit do not have the emotional stamina to express my (already) deep connection to every song, but I will share my thoughts, and what are some highlights* for me.
*choosing faves is like choosing children but I’ll still try
Diamond Heart – I love the blatant, autobiographical vibes of this track, turning her side hustle into the most superfluous, exaggerated version of itself.
I’ll just keep go-go’n
And this dance is on you
One, five, ten, lay a million on me
Before the end of this song
And let’s not even talk about her vocal gut-punches on this one. AMAZING opening track and I’m here for the live performance.
Dancin’ in Circles – In true fashion, she’s always got a song about literally loving yourself – masked behind a sick beat and slick lyrics. Can we talk about Beck’s production for just a minute, though?
This track is literally past -“Alejandro”, future Ace of Base, and I don’t know why I’m getting OG Lana vibes on the spoken-word bridge of the song – but I’ll take it! This is another clear case of Gaga creating her own genres – and my jaw TRULY dropped when the chorus came through. MUST-HEAR.
Hey Girl ft Florence Welch – I’m shook, ya’ll. I really am. After hearing Gaga talk so much about this song, it was a dream to finally hear the lyrics come to life alongside the music.
Help me hold my hair back
Walk me home ’cause I can’t find a cab
And we dance down the Bowery
Held hands like we were 17 again
And then it’s 4am
The sun is creepin’ up again
Don’t you leave me
Oh, darling don’t you leave me
Feel free to reference Elton John and Prince because that’s what I’m getting from this tempo! I honestly thought I’d see something in the liner notes referencing an interpolation of “Bennie and the Jets” – but as the Godmother of Elton’s kids – it could’ve been a “favor”, who knows!
I’m obsessed with hearing Gaga’s voice volleying back and forth with Florence’s in perfect, yearning, harmony – and this is a beyond long-awaited slow jam of a love song for your ride or die best girlfriend.
There’s not much more that I can tell you other than to buy it if you’re a fan of her work.
I’d recommend listening in it’s entirety and in order 🙂
I can’t really compare it to any of her past albums, because she out-does herself every time and this one is just as different as they always feel the first time. And I mean that in the best way.
