Nicki Minaj Performs “Chun Li” on SNL, plus Live Debut of “Poke It Out” featuring Playboi Carti

On last night’s season finale, Saturday Night Live was hosted by the hilarious Tina Fey, boasted several celebrity cameos, and of course – Nicki Minaj was performing live on the 43rd season’s closing episode. I expected nothing but the best from these two performances, and I was far from disappointed.

Like I said, a million special guests were in tow that night supporting both Tina Fey’s birthday weekend, and also queen Nicki’s return to the SNL stage. Her Instagram feed was flooded with love and support from the likes of SNL-alum and comedian Tracy Morgan, actor Ben Stiller, rapper Foxy Brown, and many more.

Nicki performed “Chun Li” first and stormed about an elaborate stage setup, complete with combination b-boy/martial artists and the most seamless costume-change and hair reveal I’ve ever seen. I feel like her energy was still no match for the crowd, but she still stayed in the zone and went in from start to finish. This is seriously one of my favorite songs of hers in a minute.

For the second performance, she then handed the stage over to Playboi Carti to open up “Poke It Out” – a new collaboration featured on Carti’s new sophomore record Die Lit. I love the background visuals during the set, and somewhere between Nicki’s side-eye and Playboi Carti’s incessant jumping and head-banging – I could not sit still during this song. To be honest I like this track wayyyy more now that I’ve seen them perform it together.

Make sure you catch up on both of these performances, and then if you haven’t seen the official videos for “Chun Li” or “Barbie Tingz” you can also check those out in the playlist, too! Which is your favorite performance and why? Let me know!
