New Music Overload 9/16

Phantogram continue to preview tracks from their upcoming album, Empress Of dropped a crazy collaboration, and Gaga gave the people what they wanted: a release date for her record. So much just happened within the past 48 hours that my head is spinning – so spin with me!

Miss Gaga took to Beats1 Radio today to share some “big news” with host Zane Lowe during a live stream from her studio session. Given her elusive nature when it comes to new music, I wasn’t expecting much more than a few hints about the record. To my surprise, she actually announced the date and title: Joanne (named after her late aunt who passed away at a young age / also her middle name) and it’s to be released on October 21.

Check out the full stream here where she talks more about collaborators, lyrics, and how many tracks to expect this time around.

Eccentric synth-pop goddess Empress Of (Lorely Rodriguez) announced on the ‘gram that she’d be taking a little break from music for awhile, but left us with one hell of a parting gift. She collaborated with Pional (who remixed one of her very early tracks “Tristeza”) on what I would call a future-90’s skate center dungeon banger? It will make sense later- I promise.

Check out the track now!

That's me with the cassette, of course

Can we talk about how she posted my photo in her thank you post to her fans? Unreal and so awesome.

My actual favorite band Phantogram is continuing to blow me away with new material.  Ahead of their pushed-back-to-October 7 record Three, the duo have been sharing tracks in the meantime and simultaneously doing an incalculable amount of sick live performances. The latest track making the rounds is “Same Old Blues”, and between that, “Cruel World”, and “Run Run Blood” I don’t know how I’m going to react to hearing the full album. Their consistency is unparalleled by any other artist and I can always expect every song to be “my new favorite song”.

Hear one of my favorite new tracks:

(I feel such a connection with this song because the first time they ever played it was here at House of Blues!)

There’s so much more new music that I’m excited for in the upcoming weeks that I want to share with you!

I will be taking a small break from here for a few days, and I’ll be flying home to Atlanta. I’m going to Music Midtown Festival, so keep an eye out for fun stuff on my ‘gram! Be back soon!
