NOW PLAYING: The brand-new single “Run Your Mouth” from LA’s own, The Marías. The song and video release mark the first lead single from their upcoming album Submarine (which is the follow-up to 2021’s Grammy-nominated debut album CINEMA). Saturated with primary colors and minimalistic shots, the music video concept blends beautifully with the song’s composition and lyrical content.
“When we talk about
Everything that happened
Rather sit around
Don’t need another lesson”
Visually stunning right from the start, the unique camera angles and smooth pan shots won’t let you look away. In each scene, the contrast between the primary colors in the forefront (red, blue, yellow) and the stark-white or jet-black in the background is SO pleasing.
It’s kind of simplistic, but incredibly effective and curated to perfection. The 90’s girl in me is aesthetically reminded of Jamiroquai’s “Virtual Insanity”, those legendary Delia’s catalog photoshoots, and a little bit of The Gap?
“Got me so fed up
When you talk too much
When your focus is so out of line…”
Never has a song about communication and transparency, or avoidance and accountability ever sounded this vibey. If you’re not careful, you might that your eyes start welling up as you’re dancing to this funky, upbeat track. María’s airy vocals throughout the pre-chorus and chorus really carry the melody, and I guarantee you that after one listen, you’ll be humming this tune all day long.
The full-length album Submarine will be released May 31, 2024 – but you can go ahead and pre-save it here. And while you’re at it – check out their amazing merch (including a cassette tape, or even a vinyl edition with a water-filled cover – yes, WATER). I’m really looking forward to what’s next for this talented band and will be continuing to update on their ventures leading up to the album! ~ ♡ Danni
