U.S. Girls, Majid Jordan, Kimbra, and more. New videos, new tours, new albums.
Just ahead of The Space Between 2018 North American Tour, OVO’s dream team Majid Jordan have so graciously blessed us me with a music video for album opener “Gave Your Love Away”. I am so emotionally attached to this song, and it was one of my earliest memories of hearing new material from the then-unreleased album The Space Between. I remember hearing it at one of their afterparties over the summer and had been replaying the tune of it in my head all the time. 
The relaxed visual features the coolest assortment of girlfriends having a fashionable night in (as we often do), while singing karaoke along to the track. The karaoke program’s visuals feature none other than Majid and Jordan themselves, shown in various dreamy, lo-fi, VHS-like vignettes. I absolutely love the concept, because this is literally exactly what I do with my friends and almost exactly how we dance the moment we hear that 90’s beat.

In what Rolling Stone magazine recently named as one of this year’s most anticipated albums, Kimbra’s Primal Heart is set to be released very soon – more specifically this spring.
In a newsletter blast to her fans last week, Kimbra shared an exclusive new song called “Hi Def Distance Romance” and the following update on the status of her album’s release:
…As many of us know from experience, perhaps what creates the best environment for a relationship, and the chance for it to grow to it’s best potential, is almost always a case of timing. In service of the long term relationship I want YOU to build with this album, plus the final tweaks I’d like to make so this music can be released at it’s very best, the new album release date will be April 20th!
With an new record on the horizon and a U.S. tour kicking off in just mere weeks, this is definitely going to be (another) huge year for the New Zealand singer. I couldn’t bear to miss an opportunity to see her perform, so I’ll be catching the Chicago date at Concord Music Hall on February 3rd. Tickets are still available, so don’t miss out on the show! Have you ever heard a snippet of an unreleased song and spent months in agony not knowing if it would ever come out? Well that happened to me last summer when I caught Lane 8’s set at Spring Awakening Music Festival. I’ve had this horrifically low-quality clip of this one particular song (of course sand got in my speakers the second I got there and died soon after), and have been following the Anjunadeep musician/producer on Soundcloud since last June with my fingers crossed that this would be a single (just look at my desperate caption below!)

Well HAPPY NEW YEAR to me because he shared the full-length track “Coming Back To You” the first week of January. This comes just a few weeks ahead of the release of his sophomore album Little By Little, which is scheduled to come out next weekend. I’m actually treating myself to this show and going solo to check him out at Concord Music Hall on February 1, and tickets are on sale here. I am really liking the subtext on his accompanying tour poster, which boldly encourages attendees to “experience the moment…don’t record it…this never happened.”
Can’t say that I won’t snag a moment or two of my new favorite song, but I am beyond excited to be hearing his material for the first time as a new listener – especially at one of the best venues here. In the meantime, here’s Lane 8’s (personally) wildly anticipated “Coming Back To You” (and here’s the just-just released “Stir Me Up” – it’s so dreamy, you gotta listen to that too!)
