It Was(n’t) Love

It’s here. It’s real. It exists. The 1st music video for Lady Gaga’s upcoming October release Joanne was released approximately 48 hours ago. And two days is typically about how long it takes me to fully analyze, appreciate, and immerse myself into her work. Naturally, I dove right in – and I haven’t looked back.

I called it.

A classic performance video, set to the actual studio length of the track. I just KNEW it. Not that it was not fitting for the track, but are her days of the 9-minute art pieces – dare I say – GONE?! No more ridiculously lengthy 2-part videos? After waiting so long for the song, then the release date, then the music video – all I wanted was a classic Gaga-length film. BUT – what do I always say about putting my foot in my mouth with her?

It happened again.

A summary of my immediate thoughts:

Clearly I love this current aesthetic, as I’ve been awaiting a high-ponytail era since she whipped that weave opening up the 2011 Grammys. I’m thoroughly enjoying the cut-offs, too, ’cause her thighs could literally crush diamonds.

Something about that opening “crowd” scene reminds me of that P.O.D. video with like teen misfits and random Katy Perry. That’s the FIRST THING I thought of the moment the video started.

I can’t be the only one who was reminded of this…

Not crazy about the literal insertion of each collaborator into random scenes of the video, but the shot of her basically snatching Kevin Parker’s wig off behind the drum kit was kind of redeeming for me.

A 30-year old woman who just got her driver’s license SHOULD be erratically driving in the desert – I’m here for it. Where’s Honey B tho?

Gaga behind the wheel of a moving vehicle both stresses me out and makes me proud at the same time. This child JUST started legally driving less than 3 months ago:

THE END SCENE.

SHE DID NOT JUST ROLL BACK INTO REALITY FROM THE PERFECT ILLUSION.
