Sultry songbird Jillian Banks shared surprise single “Gimme” today on Zane Lowe’s Beats One Radio Show, and fans (like me) are losing it. This marks the first major release since her 2017 standalone single “Underdog” and 2016’s The Altar. The new song honestly comes as a complete shock, as the R&B singer is notorious for keeping her forthcoming projects under wraps until they are essentially released. The Hudson Mohawke-produced track takes the generally dark, brooding beats we’ve come to know and love and swaps it for sensual synth patterns and and airy electronic flair. The production is everything we expect and even more from Banks, just with a fresh new direction and something we’ve never experienced before.
Gimme, gimme, what I want, what I deserve
Gimme, gimme it
She continues to experiment with unique vocal manipulations and really interesting layering of her vocals, and her voice sounds better than ever. I can’t wait to hear what’s next, and we’re waiting on that album, sis! Check out the new single “Gimme” and let me know what you think!
