Music Overload: March 2020 Albums and Announcements

Megan Thee Stallion Drops New Album Project Suga

Houston’s finest, rapper Megan Thee Stallion, has been dropping new music faster than she drops into her trademark knee-cracking twerk stance – and the masses are eating, honey. Along with the introduction of another new alter-ego named “Suga” (who she described as Tina Snow’s “bestie”) is the 9-track new project of the same name – Suga. Despite some legal battles regarding the renegotiation of her music contract, Thee Stallion didn’t skip a beat and released the record accordingly to positive response and social media praise. Suga includes the early 2020 smash “B.I.T.C.H.” and features collaborative spots from Kehlani and Gunna. Standout tracks include “Savage”, “Stop Playing”, and fan favorite “Captain Hook”. Peep the hot video for “B.I.T.C.H.” below, which highlight’s Meg’s aforementioned alter egos (among other things). Enjoy!

Grimes Shares Long-Awaited Follow-Up to 2015’s Artangels

The year is 2020 – who would have guessed that our favorite synth-nymph would be pregnant with both an album – and Elon Musk’s child? Well, here we are, and the first of the two has arrived – Miss Anthropocene (the title referring to the goddess of climate-change depicted in the album’s cover art).

The album includes prior releases “My Name Is Dark”, “We Appreciate Power”, and my personal favorite “Violence”. It may actually be one of my top 5 Grimes songs ever, actually. And the video is incredible! If Artangels was super light and bright, Miss Anthropocene is like it’s dark, ominous counterpart – and I’m here for it. Here’s Grimes’ latest video for “Delete Forever”.

Lady Gaga Announces Chromatica and Shares First Single “Stupid Love”

Gaga called it – EARTH IS CANCELLED. The iPhone-filmed new video for first single “Stupid Love” features Mother Monster calling for an end to all unrest in the world, proclaiming “all I ever wanted was love” as conflicting tribes battle for dominance in the desert.

The pulsating, dance-floor-ready track was a collaborative effort, with production from electro-pop masters BloodPop and Tchami. Shortly after the single’s release, Gaga announced her sixth full-length record Chromatica (and fans rejoiced as they no longer had to refer to it as “LG6”). The album drops April 10th, and is heavily rumored to have some huge features on the project. Well, I’ll be waiting! In the meantime, limited tickets are currently on sale for the exclusive Chromatica World Tour, which you can find and purchase here for the August 14th show in Chicago. See the full set of dates below – is she coming to your town?

Tame Impala’s The Slow Rush – Out Now!!!

www.instagram.com/tameimpala

Who’s been relentlessly enjoying The Slow Rush? (*raises hand*) Late story but – let me tell you: I went to an exclusive, early listening party at Sleeping Village to essentially preview the album in advance, and it was beyond phenomenal! First of all, not sure why there was like no one that wanted to go with me (?), but I certainly planned on getting a first listen all on my own on a work night-no questions asked.

Now that the album has been out and has grown on me more and more every day, I can’t help but think about how glad I am that I went to the listening party ahead of time. Every song reminds me of that night, and how I (and others) all reacted in unison to each new song. It was also one of the last times I was in a tightly packed crowd with strangers, which is now something that is strictly forbidden due to the threat of infection. But – not to get all sad about things, back to the album.

Even after just one unclear, tipsy run-through of the The Slow Rush that night – I instantly knew this was going to be my favorite Tame album so far! Or at the least, aligned with my sentiments about Currents. Well, I was right because we’re one month post-release and it’s exceeded my (high) expectations daily.  I’ll let you make your own assumptions, and I’ll hopefully get to detail this album as well in an in-depth review. But standout tracks for me are “Breathe Deeper”, “On Track”, “It Might Be Time”, and the unfairly underrated interlude “Glimmer” (which I seriously just play on repeat for about 6 minutes). Share with me your thoughts on the album, and when you’re done – enjoy the dizzying music video for “Lost In Yesterday”.
